This winter, Falmouth University’s Esports society is partaking in the NSE held competitive tournaments.
NSE stands for National Student Esport, and is a company that hosts competitive tournaments for British Universities.
Esports is the word used to describe competitive video gaming. The course Esports and Live streaming has existed as a course at Falmouth University for only 4 years. Making it one of the newer courses. Esports is a fast rising industry, that is gaining more and more popularity.
NSE, dubbed as the home of British university Esports holds tournaments every spring and winter, where university’s can submit teams for competitive video gaming. In total there are 14 different tournaments, including games such as Overwatch, Marvel Rivals and League Of Legends.
NSE, with sponsors from big brands like pot noodle and monster energy, gives students the chance to get a taste of the competitive gaming industry.
I spoke to Chris and Dan, members of the Esports society, to ask what being apart of NSE means to them, and what opportunity’s it can open.
Across the board, teams apart of the national championships feel a sense of community. The friendly competition sparks motivation and unity and being apart of a team is a great way to build life long friendships.
NSE is also a great stepping stone for students planning to take competitive gaming further, giving them a preview of what a real job in this industry can look like, whilst also providing a great CV reference.
