Truro Christmas market has returned for its fifth consecutive year, bringing festivities through the harsh winter weathers.
The annual market had its opening night this Wednesday, marking the start of the festive season in Truro. The festivities began with the Santa parade and many musical acts throughout the night.
The market is set to run till December 24th as well as late night shopping every Wednesday and an additional market on Monday 22nd to support last minute Christmas shopping. The hours are designed to support both shoppers and traders during the season.
The market has become a much anticipated event in the city’s Christmas calendar.
The market, which runs anually, showcases a wide range of artisan businesses across the streets of Truro (Lemon Quay and Boscawen Street.) There is a vast range of goods to be enjoyed. From food stalls to homemade goods, there is something for everyone to enjoy, even if that is just the display of Christmas lights festively decorating the town.
As well as the authentic Christmas market, shops across Truro also stay open later, many closing as late as 9pm. This creates excellent opportunities to those who don’t have time in the day to get their Christmas shopping done. The extended opening hours initiative provides the city a great opportunity to increase footfall.
Local traders have praised the market for its role in supporting independent businesses and encouraging a sense of community.
I spoke to Jo Onda, Owner of the business Cookie Queen, to discuss her thoughts on the Christmas market and what it means to other traders.
“The market is a great way to share joy and support local businesses. It is a great way to meet other store owners and support each other. As well as gain traction and grow as a business. All whilst radiating Christmas spirit.”
As well, members of the public, expressed that the market kickstarted their Christmas joy.
Organisers hope the market will continue to grow in popularity and remain a central part of Truro’s Christmas celebrations.
