A new ai technology has been launched. An app which can detect theft.

AI has completely taken over and will eventually affect every industry / business and all aspects of society worldwide. It may not be obvious but behind the scenes it is everywhere, from writing emails, facial recognition to informing security cameras of theft. Cameras are everywhere, watching our every move. Now with the power of AI they can spot certain activities. Stealing is a major problem today in local corner shops, resulting in being forced to shut down due to loss of profit. Younger kids coming in and taking small bits here and there, they all add up. Workers at these smaller stores struggle to keep up with theft. They cannot watch every single person within the store so, as a solution an Ai program has been created to monitor the cameras and alerting staff to any potential theft. Hopefully being more cost-effective, saving time and money.

Now how does this app work?

The program is called Veesion, a French owned company using a hit box system to track customers as well as the merchandise / products. The program is set off when an object goes from still to motion. The program will then track the movement. When the item goes out of view hidden in a bag, pocket or pram it will send potential warning signals to the manager, owner. This is done on three different levels yellow, amber and red. A yellow box will surround the customer meaning they are slightly wary unsure of their behaviour. The box will change to amber if the customer has an odd bag presenting in a dubious or suspicious way. Finally for the red box, it is concealment or attempting to leave without purchase, and it will send an alert straight to the manager or owner in real time hoping to prevent theft. The program will even add up how many items beside the price supposably stolen. Alongside this visual information the AI program will provide percentages of the likelihood of theft based on body language as well. Now there are still flaws within this system, the main being over sensitivity but AI is constantly learning, developing predicting as it is focusing on human behaviour.

Alex store manager – “We have had the AI anti-theft system in our store for nearly over a year now and from what I can understand it’s very up to date and programmed with a lot of fancy technology which helps pick up on shoplifters & suspicious activities in store. We are currently trialling out the software on our cameras inside the store to see if the AI system is worth the money. The software allows us to catch/prevent future shop lifters with a hassle-free way to report direct to the police with a simple few clicks on the AI app on our phones, by simply typing in the selected items stollen with the price / value. This is a huge help as filling in paperwork can be time consuming and tedious. The AI system seems to be very sensitive which isn’t a bad thing in hindsight as it picks up on the littlest of movements. This software isn’t necessarily there to catch theft but to prevent it and use it as a preventative measure to help in the long run.”
