I find myself often in the front row of a band alien to me in Falmouth, like the hydra it appears a new band will emerge to take up the mantle of the last band, forced to leave after graduating from the uni scene.

Ted McCann

Particularly recently I’ve been noticing a shift towards louder more heavy instrumentation being the most sought out, electric gigs in Falmouth. Though there does appear to be a merry-go-round of bands due to the nature of Uni town I spoke to Ted from Morning, Cat who has different ambitions for the band.

When asked about future plans and goals he didn’t shy away from the fact that they want to keep playing and improving and growing the band’s status, though admitting it would be a slow journey of incremental steps and growth. There seems to be merit to these ambitions though, as they are often playing some of the biggest venues in Falmouth, particularly often at the Cornish Bank’s grassfed nights which showcase local talent which he says has been a help and a  great venue for the band.

The band have also recently published a recorded self titled EP on youtube, all recorded in the local area, it sounds a bit cleaner and more polished than the live shows, it clocks in at around 12 minutes with 3 tracks, opening with ceramic balloons a firm Falmouth favourite, it’s a catchy EP that’ll having you humming to yourself for the rest of the day, with a short run time I’ve gone back to it a quite a few times and keep finding myself nodding away to the textured guitar whilst at my desk, getting distracted from doing work by the dreamy sounds. It’s a really exciting step for the band to take, so people can listen more consistently at home and out and around, finally the fans have something recorded.

Although there’s a lot of loud music in the Falmouth scene, attending Morning, Cat  gigs does feel a little different than the rest, propelled by a unique and uncompromising sound, with a multilayered technical sound they incorporate lots of shoegaze influence as well as some indie rock influence with their catchy riffs and hooks. They appear to have staying power with a genuine good product being put out on offer.
