AI takes away the bright futures of many
AI has been making an astronomical influence on the word in recent years with
completing tasks much like humans, it is a truly marvellous and terrifying depiction of
human creation. Even though AI is a marvel within itself it does come with many
concerns from people all over the world, creative jobs such as artwork and graphic
design are just some of the jobs that are being heavily effected by AI and its ability to
create the same work but more efficiently and quicker, this has led to countless people
over the world losing their jobs!
AI and its effect on Career’s
George is a Game Art student working on illustration and designs for games; after
talking to George, he made a clear indication on what his opinions on AI was and how
he felt AI was going to influence his career and even change his course of life.
“Making art for games is very important to me, I’ve spent most of my life drawing and
designing and I do feel quite annoyed that something like AI can come in and take that
away from me”
The fear of the inability of being able to get a job in the field of work many have studied
for is a real and ever-growing problem for many students practicing a certain field of
creative work. Speaking to George, I asked him what his thoughts were regarding his
future career options and if they have been affected by the presence and growth of AI.
“There is a very large industry for my field of work, and I am grateful for that, but I’m
definitely quite nervous about my future work, AI is already doing the work I would be
doing but so much quicker and sometimes better”
Is AI a tool or a weapon
Even though AI is causing so much stress for so many people, there is another side to
the coin when looking at AI and how it effects jobs. AI can be used as an effective tool to
help people in creative industries and businesses to help creative work in a more
efficient and effective way, such tools are being implanted into certain software’s to
speed up production and design times. I wanted to ask George what his opinions were
on the positive effects AI can have on work quality and speed.
“I do use AI in certain ways to help aid my work in such ways like asking AI to help me
generate mood boards to help aid the style of illustration I am going for”
“AI is definitely a concern for me, but it does have its uses and if used properly as a tool
it could be such an amazing thing, it’s just unfortunately at the moment it’s not”.
The realisation
After talking to George, I have gained an insightful look into how AI affects a student and
his work, it’s been very enlightening to see how someone might have such concerns for
their career from something that is man-made. AI is brilliant but just like many things in
this world a little bit is great, but too much can be damaging.
