The meal kit delivery service market in the UK is forecast to double its revenue by 2030, as an increasing number of households turn to recipe box subscription services.

According to a study from Grand View Research, the industry was valued at just under one billion pounds in 2023. By 2030, that figure is projected to reach over two billion pounds, with an annual growth rate of 14%.

Meal kits are subscription services that deliver pre-portioned ingredients and recipes on a weekly basis straight to your door. They are considered a more sustainable option when it comes to putting food on the table, as pre-measured ingredients help reduce waste.

Hello Fresh currently dominates the industry, holding the largest UK market share at 43% in 2023, while competitor Gousto held 34%, Consumer Edge found. A family of four can expect to pay around £69.99 for five meals a week from Hello Fresh and £61.75 from Gousto.

During the 2020 pandemic, subscriptions surged as lockdowns pushed households to cook at home, with providers like Gousto doubling their deliveries, UK Tech News concluded.

Today, the industry continues to expand, driven by demand for convenient, diverse, and sustainable meals.

Dee, a mother from Redruth, has been using Hello Fresh for six months. “What I really like about Hello Fresh is the convenience. You haven’t got to go shopping, and you know what you’re eating through the week,” she said. “There’s no food wastage, and it’s worth the cost.”
